Le cardinal Joseph Ratzinger fait partie des théologiens qui marquent depuis plusieurs années la vie de l'Église. Longtemps professeur de théologie (à Tubingue et à Ratisbonne), puis archevêque de Munich, il a beaucoup fait parler de lui depuis qu'il a été nommé à la tête de la Congrégation pour la Doctrine de 1a Foi, en prenant position notamment sur le catéchisme, la théologie de la Libération ou le bilan de l'Église post-conciliaire (" Entretiens sur la foi ").
